Blacktown Workers go down to Knights

Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles suffered a frustrating 26-20 loss to the Newcastle Knights today in round 13 of the NSW Cup.

In a frustrating game for the Sea Eagles, the Knights led 14-6 at half-time before some poor mistakes from the eighth-placed Blacktown Workers saw them lose to the bottom placed Knights who recorded their second win of the season.

The Knights opened the scoring in the sixth minute when centre Simi Sasagi sliced through the defence to get the ball down for a 4-0 lead.

Blacktown Workers hit back nine minutes later when centre Brad Abbey dived on a grubber kick to score next to the posts. Centre Clayton Faulalo converted for a 6-4 lead after 16 minutes.

Five minutes later, Knights second-rower Dylan Lucas scored a lucky try after Blacktown Workers over ran the ball in-goal for the Newcastle player to score for an 8-6 lead.

The Knights were in again with a converted try in the corner to winger Laitia Moceidreke to take a 14-6 lead into half-time.

Blacktown Workers started the second half perfectly with a good try to full-back Jake Toby near the posts. Faulalo failed to convert to leave the Sea Eagles trailing 14-10 after 45 minutes.

Newcastle full-back David Armstrong showed a clean pair of heels to score behind the posts for an 18-10 lead after 49 minutes. The try was not converted from in front of the posts.

The free flow of tries continued five minutes later when Blacktown Workers second-rower Josh Stuckey dived over in the corner. Faulalo’s conversion attempt hit the posts for an 18-14 scoreline with 24 minutes remaining.

A converted penalty goal saw Newcastle take a six-point lead before Dylan Lucas cut through the defense to score next to the posts for a 26-14 lead.

Faulalo then showed his speed when he raced away to score next to the posts for a 26-20 lead with four minutes remaining.
