Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles recorded an impressive 42-20 over South Sydney.

By Wayne Cousins

Missing six players from last week’s win over the Dragons after being promoted to the NRL team to cover injuries and Origin, Blacktown Workers fielded a team full of exciting youngsters under the captaincy of experienced NRL player Brad Parker at Accor Stadium.

It was Blacktown’s ninth win of the season, and their fourth by 20 points, under Coach Wayne Lambkin to move the Sea Eagles into sixth place subject to results.

Blacktown Workers were boosted by the return of full-back Clayton Faulalo, five-eighth Jamie Humphreys, second-rower Brad Parker and hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong after they were named in the NRL extended squad earlier in week.

With several players in the NRL team combined with a heavy first grade injury injury toll, talented youngsters Oliver Lawry, Max Hayley, Broden Konz, Kylan Mafoa, and Devante Mihinui were promoted from the Jersey Flegg team to NSW Cup.

Blacktown Workers opened the scoring with a try to winger Watson Heleta for 6-0 lead after five minutes after five-eighth Jamie Humphreys converted from the sideline.

After allowing the ball to go over the sideline from the re-start, Souths crossed for a try with their first attack into Blacktown’s quarter through full-back Bayleigh Bentley-Hape for a 6-4 scoreline.

South Sydney took an 8-6 lead after the ball was shifted left for winger Jude Saldanha to plant it down with one hand in the 14th minute.

The Sea Eagles hit back when hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong darted from dummy half to beat two defenders to score next to the posts for a 12-8 lead after 28 minutes.

Chan Kum Tong and Humphreys then combined to send half-back Tylor Bunting over next to the posts for an 18-8 lead after 34 minutes.

A loose pass from Souths saw Lawry race downfield before linking up with Humphreys who raced 40 metres to score in the corner for a 22-8 lead at half-time.

A drop ball by Souths from a kick saw Hayley score a minute after the break. Humphreys converted from the sideline for a 26-8 lead.

A left foot infield kick saw the ball sit up perfectly for Faulalo to score under the posts for a 32-8 lead after 48 minutes.

A short kick off from Souths backfired when Chan Kum Tong caught the ball and raced over 50 metres to score in the corner. Humphreys converted for a 40-8 lead after 50 minutes.

Bentley-Hape and Saldanha then each scored their second try to make it 40-20 after 74 minutes.

Blacktown Workers 40 (Chan Kum Tong 2, Watson Heleta, Tylor Bunting, Jamie Humphreys, Max Hayley, Clayton Faulalo tries; Humphreys 7 goals) d South Sydney 20 (Bayleigh Bentley-Hape 2, Jude Saldanha tries; 2 goals).

Hat-trick for Ben Condon in strong Blacktown win.

By Wayne Cousins

A hat-trick of tries to second-rower Ben Condon saw Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles record a convincing 26-14 win over St George-Illawarra Dragons on Sunday in round 15 of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup.

Condon crossed for two first half tries before securing victory late with his third try at HE Laybutt Field, Blacktown, after the Sea Eagles led 16-6 at the break.

The Dragons opened the scoring through centre Benjamin Johnson after second-rower Dylan Egan brushed past five-eighth Jamie Humphreys for a 6-0 lead after 13 minutes.

Condon grabbed the first of his three tries five minutes later when he steamed onto a flat pass near the posts from hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong to make it 6-4.

The Sea Eagles took a 10-6 lead into half-time after Humphreys delivered a crisp pass for Condon to stroll over for his second in the 34th minute.

The home side extended their lead to 16-6 through a converted try to full-back Clayton Faulalo after he stumbled his way to the line from a scrum win and a good offload from winger Jaxson Paulo.

A short drop out from the Dragons saw the ball land into the arms of Blacktown Workers winger Watson Heleta who strolled over for an easy try in the 61st minute for a 20-6 lead.

Four minutes later, the Dragons caught the Sea Eagles short on their right edge for centre Sione Finau  to cross for a 20-10 scoreline.

Condon then sealed victory for the Sea Eagles when he spin and turned his way in a tackle to score his third for a 26-10 lead.

The Dragons then crossed through five-eighth Lyhkan King-Togia for a 26-14 scoreline with seven minutes left but it wasn’t enough to reign in the Sea Eagles.

Blacktown Workers have won four of their past six games under Coach Wayne Lambkin to sit eighth on 16 points.

They now play the 11th placed South Sydney on Saturday, June 22, at Accor Stadium at 5.10pm in the curtain raiser to the NRL match.

Blacktown Workers are keen to keep the momentum rolling.

By Wayne Cousins

Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles will be looking to build on last week’s impressive win over Newcastle when the team returns home this Sunday in round 15 of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup.

The Sea Eagles go into the match against St George-Illawarra Dragons at HE Laybutt Field, Blacktown, on the back of a strong 36-16 win over the Knights in Newcastle.

Four first-half tries to the Sea Eagles saw them take a 24-6 lead into the break with the Knights scoring their lone try right on half-time.

Five-eighth Jamie Humphreys crossed for two tries, kicked six goals, and made two line breaks in the big round 14 win.

Hooker Jake Simpkin made 40 tackles in the game with his performance seeing him added to an extended NRL bench for this week.

Exciting full-back Clayton Faulalo recorded 231 run metres from 21 runs.

The Dragons sit seventh on 16 points and go into the game on the back of an 18-14 loss to Parramatta last Friday night.

St George-Illawarra have won four of their past five games.
